Restoring Habitats, Reviving Light

As part of our ongoing Releaf the Future CSR initiative, a team of 16 volunteers journeyed to Pusat Konservasi Kelip-Kelip, Sungai Panjang, Sabak Bernam, where we planted 100 Pokok Berembang trees. These mangrove form the natural habitat of Malaysia’s magical fireflies (kelip-kelip), whose glowing presence depends on a healthy and thriving ecosystem. By restoring their home, we help protect biodiversity, strengthen coastal environments, and preserve one of Malaysia’s most enchanting natural wonders.

Supporting the Environment and Communities

This effort is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 13 Climate Action, SDG 14 Life Below Water, and SDG 15 Life on Land. Through habitat restoration, we help sustain eco-tourism by ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the captivating sight of fireflies lighting up the mangrove forest. The initiative demonstrates how meaningful environmental action can support both nature and local communities, creating long-term value beyond the planting day itself.

A Fun Fact Worth Sharing

The Pokok Berembang (Sonneratia caseolaris) does more than shelter fireflies. Its roots help prevent coastal erosion, improve water quality, and absorb carbon from the atmosphere, contributing to climate resilience. Every tree planted is a small but powerful step toward restoring ecological balance and leaving a positive legacy for the fireflies, the ecosystem, and the communities who rely on them.
